Interning at The Manhattan Theatre Club

One of the indirect purposes of a theatre S.I.P. is to guide Kalamazoo College theatre majors in their search for an S .I .P. Since a large number of theatre majors choose to do internships at institutional theatres it makes sense that a good deal of their S.I.P. reports should describe their specific internship programs. Most reports do this, but very few of them elaborate on the process the student went through in choosing and arranging his internship. For some students it was a simple process and not worth mentioning. I, myself, was very uncertain as to where I wanted to intern and found the process more difficult. My preliminary decision-making did not leave me completely in the dark. I knew that I wanted to work in management (stage or office) and was inclined towards· theatres in the Northeast (only because they were closer to home). In the long run I was open to just about any place. No matter how many preliminary criteria I could think of I was still left with a large number of possible theatres from which to consider. The process I went through to narrow down my possibilities revealed some thoughts which can be helpful to theatre students who share my uncertainty in the search for an internship S.I.P.
