Pulling It Together: Thought and Action
This paper is an interwoven conglomeration of my academic and personal writings. I have become aware of my need to actively interconnect my personal life with my professional and academic life. This awareness solidified over the last three months as I studied feminist and socialist theory. I had not been aware that this dichotomy between home and workplace was a capitalistic phenomenon; thought it was "natural." Feminist theory posits that a true understanding of our position within society must begin with our personal lives; in order to best understand what changes are required for maximizing our potential we must reevaluate our lives on a more personal level -rather than allowing our lives to be defined from without. This paper, then, builds upon my personal experiences as well as my formal work experience resulting in a more complete appreciation of the issues with which I dealt and how they interrelated with one another.
