Abstract
The purpose of any award or incentive/suggestion program is to induce improved or continued excellence in job performance by regularly rewarding employees who perform especially well. There are corollary effect of incentive programs which can also lead to increased production and performance. For example, if a.specific behavior is rewarded in a desirable way, that can make for a more goal oriented work force in that employees may work toward meeting the specific requirements. for that reward. In addition to influencing employees to set and reach specific goals, awards and incentive programs increase employee morale thus enhancing. productivity and effectiveness. Morale is an important factor influencing productivity. According to Personnel Magazine, May 1990, even though cash awards to employees are appreciated, actual gifts from a catalogue, for example, provide something tangible and lasting that can remind employees that they are appreciated. This may not be considered economically feasible for all Wayne County divisions. Since Detroit Metropolitan Airport is not completely independent, airport administration will have to assess the feasibility with regard to cost and availability of possible cash or non-cash rewards for award winners.
