Abstract
Education has become increasingly important in today's society. With this new emphasis on continuing education beyond high school, there are many more students researching colleges and universities to find the one that will make them unique and more qualified on a resume than any other prospective employee. These students are quite clever in their search. Word of mouth is no longer the only way people find out about colleges. Guidebooks, calling graduate schools, college publications, college fairs, and high school visits are also common methods of choosing the right school. The combination of higher demand for college and administrators' demand for quality students has forced Admissions Counselors to become even more creative, even harder workers, even more friendly. This has become especially true in Liberal Arts Schools because society seems to be placing a higher value on precise knowledge rather than on general knowledge with the ability to specialize. This has placed Admissions Counselors such as the ones that work at Kalamazoo College in situations where emotion management is needed, more frequently. The Admissions Counselors I studied all manage their emotions. Two points are taken into consideration in their management: the image of themselves and Kalamazoo College, and the conditions under which they are experiencing the need for emotion management.
