Abstract
I had the opportunity over the past ten weeks to meet and interact with some of the soldiers who served in Vietnam. Originally, I had intended to focus my senior thesis on the Post Traumatic Stress Disorder that frequently developed after the War and how PTSD may be exacerbated by a history of child sexual abuse. However, my clinical observation of the men on the psychiatric :unit of the Veterans affairs Hospital (VA), led me in a slightly different direction. I was particularly moved and intrigued by the patients who were veterans of the Vietnam War. On my first day in the morning group* I witnessed some of the Vietnam veterans who gave testimonies about their War experiences. It was evident that the impact of their experience in Vietnam still remains today. Through primarily unobtrusive observation and some informal contact with the patients, I was able to gain insight into the unique differences that the war presented and the inability of these men to fit back into society after this experience.
