My approach to the issue of perinatal substance abuse is primarily sociological as well as medical. I have a natural tendency to step back and assess the "big picture," the whys and hows of the problem at hand. The reasoning for this is founded ultimately in a desire and hope for social change, a quest to understand how to go about rectifying a social problem such as this one which results from drug abuse, a problem itself so entrenched in our society. This quest is often overwhelming due to the nature and complexity of most social problems.
