Philosophies, strategies, and implementation of treatment services for children are constantly changing to make improvements. There is no one perfect solution to eliminate the crises of children. There are many schools of thought on the methods of behavior modification programs. Each agency or institution implements the program which it feels will be of the most benefit to its clients. There are pros and cons to each program. The agency will have to then make changes and modify the behavior modification program to fit its own needs. Should a child need to be placed in an institution or residential facility, placement should be determined upon the needs of the child. Ideally the child will reap as many benefits of treatment as possible in a minimal amount of time. It begins to become a disservice rather than a service when a child spends years in an institutional setting. There are numerous programs in the United States designed to help children with their problems. Some of these agencies have been in existence for many years. The idea of removing children from unhealthy environments is not new. Helping improve children's lives through professional care has been occurring for well over 100 years. Although there are thousands of children in treatment programs, there are thousands more in harmful living situations who need help.
