Glossary of Early Southeastern American Architecture

Abstract

The author volunteered as a primary source researcher for the Glossary of Early Southeastern American Architecture. The purpose of the glossary project is to develop an illustrated source of architectural terms used in the early American South. Approximately 1500-1800 terms describing architectural forms, building components, methods of construction and materials will be included. Once completed, the final product will be made available to scholars, people in preservation, and the general public. The author describes the overall project, the work she contributed, and discusses elements of historic preservation learned in the process.
