Abstract
The first half of this paper is a description of my summer internship at Arzika, located in Troy, Michigan helping plan the event Michigan Emerging and some of the things I learned about. The internship taught me a lot of research skills and selling strategies. It helped me develop my marketing skills. It taught me the value of interactions with customers. The second half of this paper is dedicated to explaining why I believe Michigan's economy will be revitalized. This internship made me aware of the complexity of the economy of my home state, Michigan. Through researching companies in Michigan for this event I got a firsthand look at the economy of the state and have changed my negative opinion of Michigan and Detroit. I have concluded that Michigan is a possible option for me to live. Michigan has a lot of resources and the hard economic times have caused the entrepreneurial spirit of Detroit to awaken. This spirit has caused a cultural shift which has been brought about by creation of community, infrastructure change, small businesses and the supportive policies of the Mayor of Detroit Dave Bing. I will explore these factors and how they intertwine with each other and the resulting culture and why it has brought about economic revival and made Detroit a desirable location.
