A Study of Thai Celadon Wares Found in the Southem Philippine Islands

This study focuses on a group of Thai celadon bowls and sherds that are part of both the Guthe and Robinson Collections at the University of Michigan, Museum of Anthropology. The first section of this paper will discuss a brief history of Thailand including its early wares and will concentrate on the celadon wares of Sawankhalok. Then we will look at a general view of the trade of ceramics in Southeast Asia and a view of the Philippines in order to understand the reasons for the desire for these wares. The rest of the paper focuses on a statistical analysis of these bowls in order to better understand their pattens of production and distribution.
