Abstract
Through this commentary on Senegalese women's bases of power as related to
education, marriage and economics, I hope to compliment already existing work on
African women by focusing more specifically on Senegal. Encompassing the French and
Islamic influences as well as their African nature when discussing Senegalese women is
an essential mission in my study. Also, I desire to produce a unique study that describes
Senegalese women's power as determined solely by the women themselves, one that does
not impose my Western feminist ideology on them and their perceptions of their power.
Finally, I will connect what my informants have related to me with branches of African
feminism.
