The following research describes the rise in food globalization and the negative effects it has had on the environment, health and consumers. It begins by addressing the history of globalization following World War II, and the support by nations to increase food production and the agriculture industry. It looks at the rise in urbanization as a response to changing demands and the population increase. It observes the changes that occurred as a result of urbanization, as there was a need to transport food at a faster pace, and in a more efficient manner. Therefore there was a large increase in transportation methods. With increasing demands and the ability to transport food more efficiently, the agricultural industry introduced new technology to aid in keeping up with these changes. The mass production of food further intensified as a result of genetically modified organism's (GMO'S). A combination of all these factors has resulted in a number of disease outbreaks, This research focuses on the problems associated with food globalization and the agricultural industry and describes the increasing interest in local food production and the importance of eating local.
