My interest in the relationship between gender, language, and identity truly began two summers ago when I took a class at the University of Michigan about language and discrimination. I have always believed that language is the most intimate form of self-expression. My gender has greatly influenced how I use language and consequently how language has affected by my sense of self. I wanted to explore the relationship between these three aspects of personhood more thoroughly so as to have a better understanding of how they create and recreate each other.
