Predictors of Leadership Aspirations in Adolescent Female Athletes: A Literature Review and Collaborative Research Summary
A correlational study evaluated how personality variables predict adolescent female athletes' leadership aspirations. Questionnaires included the Connectedness Needs, 0' Brien Leadership Aspiration, Rosenburg's Self-esteem, and Bern's Gender Role scales. Participants were 82 female adolescent athletes between the ages of 13 and 18 years, from predominantly Caucasian areas in the Midwest. Significant results were found for connectedness needs as a predictor of leadership aspirations in adolescent females. Higher scores on the connectedness needs scale predicted higher leadership aspirations and accounted for a significant portion of the overall variance in predicting young female athlete's leadership aspirations.
