The stories presented here in English translation have been taken from a collection of Norwegian fairy tales edited and translated into German by Klara Stroebe and Reidar Th. Christiansen. Selecting only those stories pertaining to the theme of trolls and giants, I chose to pursue this particular theme mainly because it is a fascinating motif unique to Nordic folk-lore and is both an expression as well as cause of the superstitions of the Scandinavian peoples before the twentieth century,en_US
