Tales from Tibet: Translated from the German
The tales presented here are excerpts from a volume of die Maerchen der Weltliteratur, this particular volume being entitled Maerchen aus Tibet Hoffmann and published by the Eugen Diederichs Verlag of Dusseldorf/Llon in 1965. It contains some 200 pages of mythological narrations and folktales collected from various· sources and an account of their origin and heritage. This selection does not represent the most interesting or the least complicated of the tales. in the Tibetan collection rather, I attempted to includes much variety as feasible. Some of the tales translated in my opinion, rather nebulous and therefore dry, while others contain all the necessary elements of a magical suspense story. In all of them may be enjoyed the atmosphere of Buddhist mysticism native to that eastern civilization.
