Abstract
Die Farm in den griinen Bergen, some chapters of which I have translated in
this paper, began as a series of postwar letters written by Alice Herdan-Zuckmayer to
her parents-in-law. They contained her memories of life on the farm during the war
years. By chance, they were read by a newspaperman who printed several of them in
his Munich newspaper. Because of the interest in the letters, Alice HerdanZuckmayer
combined the letters into the stories in this book, which was published
by the Fischer Taschenbuch Verlag.
