Abstract
I attempted to gain various insights from German and Chinese literature in order to establish the similarities and differences therein. Secondly, during the eras in which this literature was written, both countries adhered to the economic and political system or ideology of socialism. With socialist society as the setting of the literature, I aimed at exploring the literary portrayal of individuals, their lives, and the identities constructed in a political context.
