Abstract
The text before you attempts to express in written form the discoveries I made in my reading. The introductory material consists of a brief biography along with the history of the KHM and the pride in German culture which influenced it's start. Then I give a definition of the type of fairy tales the KHM are, which includes comparisons to other fantasy literature. The text concerning the more extensive parts of my research follows thereafter. The first section, "Grimms' Claim to Fame", is a review and critique of the issue brought about by John Ellis's book, One Fairy Tale Too Many. The argument pertains to the authenticity the Grimms claimed the KHM have. The next section, "Aspects of the Fairy Tale as Literature" contains much of my own analysis. A section on the importance of the KHM to romanticism concludes this portion of my analysis.
