This Senior Individualized Project is a literature review of the economic impact of the Olympic Games and an argument for further research on this topic. The three major categories of discussion are: sources of Olympic funding, host preparations and short term impacts, and long-term post-Olympic impacts. The paper argues for more academic research on the economic impact of the Olympic Games on the platform that this paper demonstrates that there is not enough economic data and theory available to understand completely the issues presented here. The paper explores each of these issues with the goal of either providing the reader enough background to understand the concepts at hand or to demonstrate subtopics that deserve further research.
