Study of Quebec-France Relations Through Popular Opinion
Abstract
This project is concerned with Quebec. The goal of the project
was to study the relationship of Quebec with France, the
mother of Quebec and one of the two founders of Canada. The
study, to be done primarily through popular opinion about the
relationship, was meant to teach about Quebec and France at
the same time, the relationship with France given through
Quebecois opinion. An attempt to understand francophone
opinion of the mother country and to learn about France in the
process, this project was concerned with France and its
'children' simultaneously. For the popular opinion, interviews
were conducted with Quebecois citizens on the subject of
France and their feelings about the relationship. The
interviews aimed at the meaning of France to Quebec, the
relationship of Quebec to France, and at the historical and
contemporary ties Quebec has with France. The interviews also
touched on Quebecois feelings towards France in reference to
the contemporary 'struggle of races' in Canada.
