This senior individualized project will begin with a discussion of my experience with the local food movement in Detroit. The scope of this paper will include the economics of local.food, the merits -of local food and how the relocalization of food systems could result in food security around the world. In our increasingly globalized world, food security is one of the most critical emerging issues. The interactions of food systems on a state, regional and international levels have created a world in which food is a scarce resource that is unevenly distributed around the world. There is an obesity crisis in the United States and, simultaneously, famine in sub-Saharan Africa. The goal of this paper is to discover how such a disparity could exist in our present world and what systems are in place that have created this injustice. This paper will tackle the issues of food security an all four levels: international, regional, state, and local.
