Social Media Marketing for Destination Marketing Organizations

This summer I spent eight weeks designing, implementing, and maintaining a social media-marketing plan for Discover Kalamazoo, the destination marketing organization (DMO) for Kalamazoo County. Social media marketing, office interactions, and personal growth are all based on communication. Social media can provide an essentially free marketing channel for building connections, community, and commerce for the tourism industry. A destination marketing organization does not only want to increase the economic prosperity of the region by means of tourism, but by creating a lasting positive impression of the destination to visitors and residents in order to create a positive regional brand identity. Social media can increase brand identity, website traffic, and search engine optimization if properly maintained.
