Abstract
Economic development in small and rural cities has become increasingly difficult due to the economic trends in our country. These cities are mixing both old and new plans and strategies in hopes of some economic success. Because each town is different, it is hard for community leaders to know which of these ideas to implement. Therefore cities need to find development approaches that will work, as well as create new initiatives based on the individual city. Some ways to address development are by having a strong leadership, a well though out plan, focus on target industries, but most importantly a well-rounded understanding of the economic qualities of the town. My recommendation for the city of Port Sanilac is a development plan aimed toward tourism. Given the qualities of the city, and the current economic state using certain development strategies with a focus on increasing tourism in order to boost development will likely be the best choice for this community.
