Abstract
This summer I did a marketing internship at The Detroit Stamping Company, most commonly referred to as DE-STA-CO. DE-STA-CO, as explained on its website, is the "Worldwide leader in the design, manufacture and support of clamping, gripping, transferring and robotic tooling solutions for workplace and flexible automation needs" ("DE-STA-CO homepage," 2007). The company is most famously known for manufacturing the first manual toggle clamp in 1936. Today DE-STA-CO continues to create new innovate technologies for not only the automotive industry, but as of recently, the food packaging industry also. To market its newest products for the food packaging industry to the entire world, DE-STA-CO is going to PACK EXPO tradeshow at the Las Vegas Convention Center, September 26 through September 28. As an intern at DE-ST A-Co my responsibilities appeared to me as insignificant to the production of our company's booth and to the week in general, but my co-workers assured me that my help this summer was much needed and highly appreciated due to the hectic time period of preparing for a tradeshow. I began my work doing tedious paperwork for registration that was more difficult than I thought it would be. I had to preorder electrical services, electrical workers, air and water services, carpet, cleaning services, material handling, booth labor, hanging signs, hanging signs labor, and advanced warehouse shipping. I did not know much. of the information in order to fill out the registration forms because it was my first week so I had to contact many of my coworkers from different departments to find the answers. For instance, I had to order II electricity for the Robot at the tradeshow that was going to display our new vacuums. I had to order specific outlets and electrical plugs for the robot that would be compatible with the Las Vegas Convention center. Other work I did involving the robot included finding the dimensions in order to pack it safely in the correct size crate, requesting specific labor to transport the robot from the advanced warehouse the booth at the trade show, and reserving labor from the tradeshow to set the up the robot in the booth. Another task I was in charge of completing was creating an electrical and plumbing lay out of the booth for the laborers at the trade show. Creating a lay out plan is · a necessity so the laborers know where exactly electrical and air outlets are needed. By examining the lay out plan of the booth created by· the marketing team at DE-STA-CO earlier this year, I was able to develop an electrical and plumbing lay out plan for PACKEXPO. The Floor plan created by DE-STA-CO's marketing team shows the strategic set up of where the larger products will be displayed. The robots and the location of the kiosks will exhibit the new smaller products and the videos on the flat screen televisions. The televisions will broadcast new products for food & packaging, solutions, and automation to customers.
