Salary Discrimination in the National Basketball Association
Abstract
This project utilizes economic theory and econometric techniques to determine
that salary discrimination based on both race and international status has been eliminated
from the National Basketball Association as of the 2006-7 season. By studying the past
research of wage discrimination in the NBA and the application of basketball-specific
performance statistics within econometrics, this project adds to literature of sports
economics, and agrees with previous researchers who suggest that wage discrimination in
the labor market of professional basketball is no longer prevalent.
