An Analysis of the Interview Process through a Human Resource Internship

Abstract

My summer internship experience consisted of having the privilege to view the job interview process, first hand, from a spectator basis. In addition to having this side line role to the interview, I was able to converse with the employees running the interview about the key traits of the interview, methods they employ to narrow down their candidate selection, and was also given the chance to question some of their techniques. The discussion of the interview was more pivotal in my learning of the aspects of the job interview, as it gives reason to the questions of "how" and "why" the interview process is an effective tool of the employee selection process. There are several aspects of the job interview that go more in depth than the average question and answer session. Job interviewers are given the task of evaluating the potential skills and fit of an applicant into their company, and there are several components that are sought out during the personal interview. From watching an applicant's nonverbal body movements, to asking personal questions that are meant to measure personality and character more than intellect, an interviewer has to evaluate an array of skill s and traits from a brief encounter with a potential employee.
