The Corporate Insurance Underwriting Process and Increasing Issues in Liability
Abstract
The insurance underwriting process for directors and officers is one that involves
thorough research and analysis. This lengthy process is to ensure the best policy limits
and coverage that an underwriter feels would be most appropriate for the risk the carrier
takes on. Working at Arch Insurance Group this past summer, I was able to learn the
process quite intimately, and witness the inherent risks and issues involved. In this paper,
the tenets of a corporation that explain the risks and liability of a corporation are exposed
and examined, leading to further issues brought about by an increasingly "claim-happy"
society.
