Abstract
The author examines Poland's commercial environment using economic, political and market analysis. The Economy in Poland again recorded tremendous growth. The economic factors that indicate this would include an increase in GDP and a decrease in inflation. Also, the unemployment rate has been dropping in recent years until January 1, 2000 it has increased to almost 14%, a level not seen since mid-1996. This is mainly a result of major layoffs aimed at increasing production efficiency of restructured and privatized companies. Poland is essentially a stable democracy. The successive post-communist governments have contributed greatly to Poland's economic recovery with their devotion to sound fiscal and monetary policies, however changes of government have tended to limit structural reform, especially privatization of major state enterprises. Opportunities for trade and investment continue to exist across virtually all sectors in Poland. American companies lead investment in Poland, accounting for over one-fourth of all foreign investment. The American Chamber of Commerce in Poland, founded in 1991 with 7 members, now has over 300 members in virtually every industry category. The prospect for real economic growth, the size of the Polish market, and political stability are the top reasons U.S. and other foreign companies do business in Poland.
