Abstract
The Family Health Center, Inc. (FHC) is a non-profit corporation that provides primary
health care to the medically underserved residents of Kalamazoo County. In response
to a request from the FHC Board of Directors, the Greater Kalamazoo United Way
(GKUW) arranged a Task Force to perform an organizational analysis of the FHC. The
ultimate purpose of this Task Force and study was to encourage and ensure the FHC's
efficient, quality delivery of vital primary health services to the medically underserved
citizens of Kalamazoo.
Dr. Wen Chao Chen of Kalamazoo College was asked to be the principal staff person
for the GKUW Family Health Center Task Force and I provided staff assistance as part
of my Senior Individualized Project. In my capacity as staff intern/assistant, I
participated in the Task Force reviews and analysis of the FHC's mission, Board of
Directors, administrative affairs, programs, clients, public relations, medical operations,
and financial affairs.
This paper is a report on my work and observations as staff intern/assistant for the
GKUW Family Health Center Task Force.
It should be noted to the readers of this paper and all those concerned that per agreement
with the Family Health Center Board of Directors and the Greater Kalamazoo United
Way, this paper may neither be considered a public document nor any portion thereof
be used for public view or use without explicit permission from the Family Health Center
Board of Directors. Also, at the request of Dr. Chen, direct reference citations within
this paper have been purposely omitted unless absolutely necessary.
