Women’s Professional Football

Abstract

Since 2008 I have been involved with a women’s professional tackle football team called the West Michigan Mayhem. After being involved for two years and realizing just how much these women go through and how little recognition they receive for being professional athletes I felt inspired to create a story. Many people don’t know about women’s football, there is very little information about what it’s like to be a woman playing a “man’s” sport. This study attempts to provide background information about women’s football, as well as provide owner and coaches input of certain issues involving the sport. There is more of a focus on the local team, the West Michigan Mayhem, because of my past relationships with the owners, coaches, and players of the organization.
