Population Densities of Nematodes in the Mangroves of Mida Creek, Kenya
Abstract
Mangroves are vital ecosystems that provide economic and biological resources to communities worldwide. Uncontrolled utilization of mangrove forests are destroying these ecosystems. One possible indicator of the health of a mangrove forest is the meiobenthos. The meiobenthos are sedentary and highly sensitive to environmental conditions. Nematodes largely represent the meiobenthos as the predominant higher taxa. This study explores the population densities of nematodes within different mangrove forests and habitats.
