Effects of Dietary Protein and Other Nutritional Factors on Canine Cancer
Abstract
This study precedes the Morris Animal Foundation’s Canine Lifetime Health Project, or CLHP, with the purpose of validating the nutritional section of the biannual questionnaire. The CLHP will follow 3000 Golden Retrievers throughout their lifetime in order to search for links between cancer rates and nutrition, as well as other risk factors. Cancer is a major cause of illness and death in dogs and Golden Retrievers have higher rates than many other breeds. This research could assist in the prevention and treatment of canine cancer, and eventually in cancer in humans as well.
