Abstract
This paper attempts to examine the role of nonprofit organizations in a profit oriented society. Organizations of this nature tend to be taken tend to be taken for granted by the general public. Unfortunately, the government and business sectors sometimes see it as threatening. This creates more problems for this sector. It must provide its service to society in a time when unemployment, crime, illiteracy, and poverty are increasing. The positive efforts and successes of this sector are overshadowed by these increases. The first section of the paper describes the history of the sector, gives it a definition, describes its diversity(divisions), provides examples, and examines the future of this sector. Section two talks about my work experience at Cranbrook Kingswood's Horizons - Upward Bound program this summer. It is presented by sample journal entries and a list of my responsibilities. The third section describes the impact of this Work Experience SIP on my life. How it helped me to rediscover my passion in life and rethink my career goals.
