Abstract
The author discusses his internship at Robert W. Baird and Co. Inc. in Milwaukee, WI. The first segment of the SIP includes information on IRAs and setting up IRA accounts for state tax withholding. The second part of the project focuses on trading on the NASDAQ market, with an introduction to basic market terms as they are applicable to trading and some of the different aspects that are involved in buying and selling stocks from a market makers’ perspective. The IRA component contains information regarding the distribution, transfers of account both in and out of financial institutions as well as an introduction to the different types of IRA accounts: the Roth IRA, the SEP, SIMPLE, Education, and Traditional IRAs. The markets section briefly covers how a stock can be traded as well as an introduction to the role of investment banks and traders in the IPO. There is a short example of a poorly handled IPO which resulted in the loss of a large sum of money and there is also an introduction to basic stock options terminology.
