Small Business Can Survive
My experience at the Stryker Center was valuable because it gave me more insight into the world of business. In the classroom, we mostly cover theory. My internship exposed me to real life business problems that I could never experience in the classroom. My career goal is to own my own small business. The knowledge that I gained, will help me in that venture. Whenever I am fortunate enough to go into business,. I will be more prepared as a result of this opportunity. More specifically, I learned that I will need a well thought out business plan to give my business the best chance at success. In studying business plans I gained a better understanding of many different topics in business. I have learned more about marketing strategy, and market research. I was able to use the skills I learned in accounting and apply them to sections in the financial reports. I was even able to do one of our clients balance sheets. Other simple concepts in economics such as costs and determining profit(loss) allowed me to handle problems presented to me during the internship. Many of the concepts I have learned in the classroom were applicable to my job. I am sure that many of these concepts will resurface when I go to graduate school to get my master's degree in business.
