Abstract
The main purposes of this study are as follows: 1) To explore the reasons behind a recent industry-wide recession with the intent of determining its composition and the full range of its impact. 2) To evaluate the effectiveness of methods employed by various parties in all sectors within the industry to slow or halt this recession. 3) To determine whether or not the comic book industry can recover from its recent economic hardships and return to a level of economic growth. If this is possible, then it is necessary to outline a comprehensive strategy by which this recovery might I take place. If this is not possible, then the I structural and historical reasons for such a position become additionally crucial, if only as a series of warning signs for other industries. These objectives are the central focus of the following project, and in many cases proceed chronologically from the first to the third, since the first is concerned mainly with past behavior, the second with present behavior, and the third with prospects for the future.
