Abstract
This past summer I obtained an internship with a MassMutual agency out of Southfield, Michigan called The Detroit Financial Group. Established in 1851, and merged with Connecticut Mutual in 1996, Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company is one of the nation's premier life insurance companies and among the largest U.S. corporations in terms of assets. MassMutual provides over $250 billion in life insurance coverage and paid a total of $7.7 billion in benefits and dividends to policyholders this past year. MassMutual also had a net gain from operations of $304 million. With $150 billion in total assets under management, MassMutual is parent of C.M. Life Insurance Company, Oppenheimer Funds, Inc. and affiliates which manage over 50 mutual funds, David L. Babson & Company- an institutional asset manager, and Cornerstone Real Estate Advisors, Inc. - a real estate equities manager. MassMutual on the whole provides a broad portfolio of insurance, asset accumulation and money management products and services for individuals, families, businesses and institutions.
