University Outfitters: The Organization and Management of a Small-Business Partnership
Abstract
"The transition to college is difficult... Let University Outfitters help make it easy." The motto of University Outfitters is its mission; the details and goals of the company have been established. Located within the house at 304 Ingleside Terrace in Kalamazoo, Michigan, is the office of University Outfitters. Operated completely from our rented apartment, this small business was begun this summer by Brent M. King and
Jason T. Widman. A general description of University Outfitters as a small business and
as a Senior Individualized Project (SIP) includes: A partnership focused on the purchase
of necessary college dormitory and school supplies from manufacturers and wholesalers, grouping them into two different size packages, and selling them at retail value to graduating high school seniors intending to pursue college careers. These products are the same that can bought in local stores, though they are packaged together, and sold at a discounted price. These products may also be those which incoming college freshmen may not necessarily know in advance to bring to campus. The steps needed to start a business have been completed. This process, the details of initiating a small business and the introductory running of a partnership, has been learned by both its owners.
