In the course of the summer of 1998, I completed two related internships with different organizations. I did not want to choose one or the other since I felt both would be beneficial to me. The first internship I had was with the Sports marketing department at Western Michigan University. I lived in Kalamazoo for a month and a half while I worked at WMU. Upon completion of the WMU internship, I lived at home (near Detroit) and worked in the Corporate Sales Department at the Palace of Auburn Hills for the remainder of the summer. I chose to hold these internships to fulfill my Senior Project requirements at Kalamazoo College for two reasons. First, I was very interested in deciding if a career in Marketing, Advertising, Design, or Sales is right for me. So I knew I had to find an internship in one (or more) of these fields. Secondly, after talking to Dr. Grossman early spring quarter of 1998, I realized that I should start looking for organizations and companies based on my interests. Dr. Grossman said that it is essential to work in a field you truly enjoy. This is the reason that I chose to work in sports related fields (i.e. the Sports Marketing department at WMU).
