Electrical stimulation plays a significant role in the field of physical therapy and rehabilitation. Many electrical stimulation mechanisms can be found in a typical rehabilitation clinic and there is a significant difference among the use and objective of each apparatus. One particular form of electrical stimulation, iontophoresis, is based on principles that can be found in ordinary biology, chemistry, and physics courses. Iontophoresis is a relatively new concept in physical therapy as well as in other medical domains. The numerous advantages of iontophoresis will likely help maintain and further expand its practice in the field of physical therapy for years to come.
