MetadataShow full item record
I originally started specifically researching eating disorders. However, I felt that in order to appeal to a larger audience it was essential to expand my idea to include body image. Body image, for the purpose of this paper, is defined as the way women see and feel about their bodies on a daily basis. This ranges from a focused feeling about a specific area of their anatomy to an overall judgment of their entire bodies. Ten women from Kalamazoo College were interviewed in regards to their bodies. The interviewees came from every class at the college and many different backgrounds. Women were found on a volunteer basis and through social networking. Many of the interviewees said that outside forces impact how they feel about their body. It is my intention to show how women's body images are shaped by outside forces, and how this has impacted their· lives, specifically at Kalamazoo College. "Search beings by showing that women's body images are not controlled by themselves, but instead shaped by our society. A Gloomy Picture Painted explores how women on Kalamazoo College campus feel about their bodies. Many of the opinions shared echo the research presented in section I. However instead of ending on a negative note, Lux Esto: Enlightenment shares the opinions and ideas of the interviewees; of how to take the issue of body image back into the hands of women.
