This thesis consists of three parts which are all subsumed under the broader category of "dance production." These parts are 1) a description of the various aspects of dance production ranging from auditions to advertisements, 2) a focused analysis of lighting design for dance (within the larger description), with reference to three particular types of stages as areas to work with, and 3) a presentation of lighting design plans, costume ideas, rehearsal schedule and program of my concert "Extensions," presented on April 27, 1983, for the purposes of giving the reader an example of how dance can be produced and performed formally in Kalamazoo College.en_US
