This research evaluates the performance of code generated by the AIS-PL/1 compiler in three areas, and in an application related to research at the Machine Perception Labs, General Motors. The test programs are written in AIS-PL/1 and DEC FORTRAN IV PLUS, with several also written in DEC FORTRAN IV. The code generated by the AIS-PL/1 compiler from the PL/I test programs is compared to the code generated by the DEC FORTRAN compilers from the FORTRAN test programs. The comparison is an evaluation of the machine executable code and system support routines in terms of run times and memory allocation size on a DEC PDP-11/45 with an RSX-11D operating system.en_US
