In the following paper, I will explain, in some detail, the theoretical origins of the basic statistics needed to understand the techniques of statistical model building. I was given the opportunity to learn what I have written in the paper by the Up john Pharmaceutical Company. It was there that I worked with a group of Statisticians and Operations Researchers, learning how it is that one constructs statistical models of different processes. I am very thankful that the Upjohn Company gave me such a valuable experience. for the members of O.R. and S.S. who put up with my frequent questions about statistics, SAS, etc. I give my supreme thanks to them. I was lucky to have so many patient teachers.
