I spent seven weeks at Carnegie Mellon University participating in a Research Experience for Undergraduates. Dr. Steven Shreve, director of the Center of Nonlinear Analysis at CMU, ran the program along with several other professors and graduate students. I worked with Dr. Jack Schaeffer on a problem in Partial Differential Equations. He proposed a specific problem that I immediately was very interested in. I had very minimal knowledge of the field prior to this project but learned a tremendous amount along the way. Midway through my project I decided I wanted to continue the research once I returned to Kalamazoo College. I approached Dr. Stan Rajnak and asked if he would advise me. We decided to study the same problem I had worked on at CMU, but to study a numerical method in which to solve it. This way, I was able to become familiar with two methods in which to solve a very challenging problem in the field of Partial Differential Equations.
