The author used SAS (Statistical Analysis System) software to analyze the data found in the University of Michigan's Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR) study entitled Violence And Threats Of Violence Against Women And Men In The United States, 1994-1996. The study was administered over the phone to eight thousand men and women over the age of 18, willing to complete the phone survey. The respondents were questioned about (1) their general fear of violence and the ways they cope with their fears, (2) emotional abuse that occurred in the household with either their spouse or cohabitating partners, (3) physical assault they had experienced during childhood by an adult caretaker, (4) physical assault they had experienced as adults by any sort of perpetrator, (5) any incidents of forcible rape or stalking they had experienced from any sort of perpetrator, and (6) any incidents of threatened violence they had experienced. Information was collected on male-to-female, female-to-male, and same-sex partner victimization and abuse.
