The Registration Problem: Optimizing First-Year Fall Enrollment at Kalamazoo College

Abstract

This paper has two goals: to document the First Year Registration project of summer 2003 and to explore the registration problem in general. In the first section we will examine the program as of fall 2003, along with the reasons for creating it and the results of the inaugural registration. The rest of the paper will deal with the problem on a more theoretical level, first defining it, then analyzing the complexity and proposing a range of methods for solving it.
