dc.description.abstractThis paper tracks the development of a Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL) program intended to supplement Japanese language classrooms. It explores several methods of traditional language pedagogy and attempts to establish a relationship between software and the classroom environment. In making this connection, the text highlights several important situations in which well-designed software has the ability to emulate or surpass certain educational drills, potentially allotting instructors more time for those activities that demand human interaction in the classroom. The implementation of the author's own CALL software, Japanese Computer-Assisted Language Learning (JCALL), is also presented from start to finish and is analyzed according to both pedagogical and programmatic ideals.en_US
