There is a difference between engineering and programming software. These differences are explored in the context of a summer internship at FactSet Research Systems. During this exploration, C++, Java, Perl, PHP, and Python are discussed for both their strengths and weaknesses. MySQL and PostgreSQL are also discussed as well as database maintenance. Through these discussions, both good and poor choices made during this internship are explored and the benefits of engineering programs instead of just programming them are brought to light.en_US
